How did the world community get involved?
The genocide didn't get much world attention until it spread out of Bosnia-Herzegovina. It was an ignored topic at first, but once it reached western journalism it was a hot topic on the news. This was because of the huge violation of rights and the death that it was causing. When it reached the U.S. The diplomats went to work to see if they could persuade Serbia this was ignored until they involved NATO and the UN. The UN responded in a diplomatic way also they put economic sanctions on Serbia. Many were disappointed in the lack of involvement by others to stop this genocide. Finally, after NATO got involved, military action was taken. NATO responded by making Sarajevo a ceasefire zone, as well as they set up peacezones for Bosnian Muslims and Croatians. These were not respected and even attack by Serbians. Eventually NATO authorized U.S. lead Bombing runs on Serbian artillery. After months of shelling the Serbians moral was dropping and looking like it was coming to an end. Eventually, warring leaders flew to the U.S. for peace talks and it was resolved. Although many were prosecuted for their crimes a lot of others got away with their crimes during this gruesome event.

How was this event ignored?
Surprisingly this event went largely ignored at first. Many countries knew about the events that were taking place, but many did not want to get involved. This was due to the second world war. Many countries were trying to rebuild and recover. Many countries did not want to be involved in another armed conflict as it was very destructive just 50 years earlier. That is why it went largely ignored at first, because of the history in the twentieth century.
